Kidz R Us produces at least 3 large scale musicals each year as well as a number of concerts. These involve over 100 boys and girls aged 7 — 18 all of whom receive skilled tuition from experienced directors and tutors, supported by a large number of adult volunteers.

If you would like to become a member of Kidz, you will need to attend an open audition, which will be held in September each year at St Ives Theatre. There is always a waiting list for places at Kidz, but we try to include as many children as possible.

As a member of Kidz, you will join one of our two groups depending on your age. Each group performs one major production each summer, which runs every night for a week and then is performed once a week only for the rest of the summer holidays. Both groups are also involved in our Christmas productions and our concerts.

You may also be invited to take part in other productions, such as our performances at the Minack Theatre, or other regional or national venues.

Both groups of Kidz rehearse on Wednesday and Friday evenings between 7—10pm (7-9pm for younger children on Wednesdays). They may also be required to attend on other nights or at weekends when a show is imminent, or if we have a special guest tutor coming to work with them.

How to join

The next auditions for Kidz R Us will be held on Sunday 12 September at St Ives Theatre from 10am - 5.30pm.  Admission is open to anyone aged 7 - 18.  Auditions involve a morning workshop for all participants followed by a short individual audition in the afternoon, so children should be prepared to stay all day if required.  All participants are advised to wear practical, comfortable clothes that they can move in easily and bring a packed lunch. 

Children are also invited to bring a song to sing (with their own backing track or music), but if they do not have a song prepared they will be asked to sing something well known to them, such as Happy Birthday.
