Jason Donovan wearing the Kidz R Us Joseph Technicolor Dreamcoat

When the BBC’s Wardrobe Department needed a Technicolor Dreamcoat for Jason Donovan to wear on Strictly Come Dancing recently, it wasn’t to a West End theatre that the department turned, or even to one in the Home Counties.

The call went out to Kidz R Us, for a very specific coat: one that was worn by one of our former Kidz while competing in the BBC series Any Dream Will Do. A member of the BBC’s costume team remembered it when looking for a coat for Jason Donovan to wear in a fun trailer promoting Strictly’s Broadway-themed show last weekend.

The coat was designed and made by our very talented Wardrobe Director Jane Badcock for the 2005 Kidz R Us production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Jane previously worked in the costume department at the Royal Opera House and was an apprentice for Norman Hartnell.
